Kenya Competency based curriculum CBC started with children who joined grade one in 2017. They will do their first life-changing national examination in grade 9 in 2025, next year.

Pathways are selected in Grade 10 when students join senior secondary school.

The government aims for 60% of students to enrol in STEM due to its excellent career opportunities. Advise your children accordingly.
Performance Indicators & Placement in SSS
- Performance indicators in JSS disciplines will guide learner placement into specific pathways in SSS.
- Each SSS will offer at least two pathways, with ongoing clustering of SSS institutions based on these disciplines.
KNEC Assessments & Enrollment
- Grade 3: Kenya Early Year Assessment (KEYA) marks the start of KNEC evaluations.
- Grades 4 and 5: Continued KNEC school-based assessments.
- Grade 6: Results from these assessments contribute to the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), which determines Junior School placement.
